Transforming an urban metropolis into a vibrant living landscape. Arup are the founding technical partner of Wild West End, a first-of-its-kind city-centre green infrastructure project in London. Arup worked with nine of the oldest and most prestigious landowners in London to create a framework for the delivery of multi-functional, multi-value green spaces that support people and the planet.
The trend towards urbanisation is putting the squeeze on city-centre green spaces; London has already lost 215ha of open space. Understanding the economic, social and environmental benefits of these spaces, how their boundaries interact, and the biodiversity they encourage is crucial to enabling a transition across a threshold to a greener, healthier city. As technical partner, Arup consider these transitions on the Wild West End projects we support. We have developed a unique value matrix, establishing best practice criteria for green spaces in relation to climate resilience, wellbeing and social value.
