Confidential Data Centre Owner

Keeping data centres running throughout extreme weather conditions

A key concern for owners and operators of data centres is potential disruption of business continuity due to cooling system failure under extreme weather conditions. However, experience has shown that failure can in fact occur unexpectedly under non-extreme conditions due to complex interactions of wind environment, building topology and cooling system layout. Arup offers market leading computational modelling services to diagnose this issue and develop site specific design mitigations to minimise risk.

Current market trends show data centre owners are increasingly keen to develop template designs, which can be deployed rapidly at new locations. Working on behalf of a confidential client, Arup developed a state-of-the-art modelling procedure, which would not only provide deeper, probabilistic insights into extreme weather risk but allow real time assessment of template design performance for a wide range of locations and site orientations.
